Final Piece Preparation - Mock Final Piece

To prepare for my final piece, I have created what I feel is a sample of the final piece idea I had in mind.
With this mock final piece, I have experimented with composition of the photos as well as the background of which I feel will make the photographs stand out the most as a piece.

For my photographs, I felt the best composition was similar to a sound wave. This is because sound waves are the focal point for my piece, being what my entire project is based on for the lines and colours. To further bring sound waves into my piece, I have made the photographs themselves as a large sound wave that further emphasises the importance of sound waves, and how they songs effect everyone's thoughts, memories and emotions in life.
I have made the photographs different sizes as I feel it helps emphasise certain photographs. As well as this, it makes the piece seem much less flat and repetitive, as it makes different photographs all unique, with different techniques being able to be used based on the size of the photograph. To improve, I will make the techniques on the photographs themselves different, making the photographs even more unique. For example, I will aim to use the inkblot overlay technique for more variety in the photographs.
As well as this, I have made the colour composition in a way of which all the colours in the colour spectrum show, so the colours blend into each other from red to blue. I feel this creates contrast of bright vibrant colours compared to the greyscale background, which stands out and represents emotions that most people associated with a memory that overshadows the actual memory itself. For the entire image, the colours represent the vast array of emotions that people can feel from memories, some of which can be the same memory but represented differently by different people. A memory for one person could be happy, but sad for another.

To experiment with my piece, I moved it around different backgrounds to see what was the most effective. I wanted my background to fit with my piece and not stand out too much, but also give contrast in the piece.

I first experimented with a white background. On the white background I felt the dark backgrounds on the photographs stood out too much on the light background. This made the photographs not stand out and therefore made the background ineffective.

The brick background was the next background I experimented with. I felt the brick background had fit in with the grey brick backgrounds to make them fit together further. However, the colour of the brick stood out too much that made the photographs blend too much in the background, thus making the piece not have enough contrast and therefore the brick is not an effective background.

Finally, I tried a black background for my piece. I feel this background fits the most with my photographs as it provides sufficient contrast between the photographs and the background, as well as not standing out too much so the entire piece doesn't fit. However, I feel the photographs that are darker blend in slightly with the background. To fix this, I have used the technique earlier used that is scratching. I feel the scratching improved the contrast between the background and the photographs but still making sure they didn't stand out too much by adding a white border on the photograph edges.
I added the scratching to also represent the  memories not being perfect; you can never remember every single detail as time goes on so some pieces of information fades, which is represented by some parts of the photographs being scratched away.

To move forward, I will plan my composition for my final piece which will be much larger than my mock final piece on a black background.

Final Piece Plan:

For my final piece, I intend to do a similar composition of a sound wave but on a much larger scale to make it resemble more of a sound wave than my mock final piece.
I also intend to bring from my mock final piece the techniques I have used, such as the scratching, paint, ink and photoshop effects. However, I will also bring more variety to the photoshop technique by also using the inkblot technique I experimented with previously.
I plan for my final piece to be a much larger scale on a black wall. The wall will be on a curve around the viewer, allowing them to immerse themselves in my piece.
For this, I will also create the colour spectrum with the photographs, starting from red on one side and ending with red/purple, making it seem like the entire piece blends together. For this, I will need around 60 photographs of either 6x4, 7x5 or 8x6 to create this final piece.
