Subjects- songs and why it is important to them

When further developing my art journey in preparation for my final piece, I decided to include the subjects' real emotions and memories triggered by songs. 
Using real subjects allows my work to have a deeper meaning of realism by allowing real thoughts and emotions being shown in my work. It also allows the viewer to know and relate to the emotions that the subject feels using the colour connotations in the piece. 

 To do this, I asked people of different music tastes, hobbies and backgrounds to pick a song that is important to them, with reasons as to why. This could mean emotions that the subject feels when listening to the song, or memories it triggers that could make the subject feel a specific emotion/s. 
I feel that from asking these questions, I am able to gain more in depth meaning for my photographs, with every line and colour having a meaning. This also helps with deciding the colour I will use for the subject, as it will give more of an insight as to what the subject feels about the song so it feels like you know the subject, despite never meeting them.

 Upon asking for a song, I have then used a piece of software to display the soundwave of that song. With a soundwave, I am able to place the song in my piece in the form of lines. I can use these lines in my piece to create more texture using the experiments I have used previously. 
However, soundwaves of the full song do not show as much line as I wanted to create texture that is effective. To fix this, I used a small 30 second length soundwave which displays much more line and makes it more unique to the other songs that I have used in this piece. The 30 second soundwaves are the lines I will use as reference in the photographs I create, with the colours that represent the meaning for the subject.

Fine Art Photography - Editing Photos

When I took my photos, I decided to edit them in Photoshop. I decided I wanted to edit them rather than keep them as they were because adding colour onto photographs that already contain colour wouldn't give me the contrast I wanted in my photographs. I also wanted my pieces to focus on only one colour that would represent the emotion associated with the music that it gives to the subject when they listen to it. The colour would also represent the emotion that they feel if the song reminds them of a certain memory.  To begin, I wanted to change the saturation of the photograph by -100, making it transform from colour to grey scale. I feel adding the grey scale will allow my piece to be in the background and not focused on when I add the colour onto the piece. Final Piece Preparation - Mock Final Piece

To prepare for my final piece, I have created what I feel is a sample of the final piece idea I had in mind.  With this mock final piece, I have experimented with composition of the photos as well as the background of which I feel will make the photographs stand out the most as a piece.  For my photographs, I felt the best composition was similar to a sound wave. This is because sound waves are the focal point for my piece, being what my entire project is based on for the lines and colours. To further bring sound waves into my piece, I have made the photographs themselves as a large sound wave that further emphasises the importance of sound waves, and how they songs effect everyone's thoughts, memories and emotions in life.   I have made the photographs different sizes as I feel it helps emphasise certain photographs.
