Final Piece Preparation - Installation Artists

Image
For my final piece, I have prepared by finding inspiration and ideas on how to present my work by looking at artists that present work in a way I plan to for my final piece. The way I wish to present my work is as an installation in a room. I will present my work on every side of the wall to allow the viewer to be completely immersed in my work so they have the ability to also think about their own thoughts, feelings and emotions in songs they feel is important to you. I also feel as added immersion, the viewer should listen to their own song they find important using headphones so they can further think about their own whilst looking at the different subjects and getting to know them for their song choices and emotions that come from them.  There are multiple different artists that do installations that I plan to do for my final piece.  Mark Kessell -  Untitled Specimen Box Installation  Serial No. 28022 One of the artists I have looked into is ...

Final Piece Preparation - Mock Final Piece

Image
To prepare for my final piece, I have created what I feel is a sample of the final piece idea I had in mind.  With this mock final piece, I have experimented with composition of the photos as well as the background of which I feel will make the photographs stand out the most as a piece.  For my photographs, I felt the best composition was similar to a sound wave. This is because sound waves are the focal point for my piece, being what my entire project is based on for the lines and colours. To further bring sound waves into my piece, I have made the photographs themselves as a large sound wave that further emphasises the importance of sound waves, and how they songs effect everyone's thoughts, memories and emotions in life.   I have made the photographs different sizes as I feel it helps emphasise certain photographs. As well as this, it makes the piece seem much less flat and repetitive, as it makes different photographs all unique, with different tech...

Colour connotations - emotions

To make my work have a more deeper meaning, I have decided that I would use a colour that would describe how the subject feels based on the song they have chosen. This makes sure that every colour has a meaning, which the audience can then also experience those emotions and perhaps wonder how and why the subject feels that way. This makes them try to know the subject much more without actually talking to the subject themselves.  Colour connotations:  Light red:  Joy, love, passion Pink: Romance, love, friendship Dark red: Rage, anger, wrath Brown: Stability Dark orange: Distrust Red-orange: Desire, passion Dull yellow:  Jealousy, sickness Light yellow: Joy, happiness Yellow-green: Jealousy, sickness Green: Jealousy, greed Light blue: Joy, happiness Dark blue: Seriousness Light purple: Nostalgia, romantic Dark purple: Sad, frustration, negative Black: Sad, depression, negative White: Dull With these colours, I will take int...

Subjects- songs and why it is important to them

Image
When further developing my art journey in preparation for my final piece, I decided to include the subjects' real emotions and memories triggered by songs.  Using real subjects allows my work to have a deeper meaning of realism by allowing real thoughts and emotions being shown in my work. It also allows the viewer to know and relate to the emotions that the subject feels using the colour connotations in the piece.  To do this, I asked people of different music tastes, hobbies and backgrounds to pick a song that is important to them, with reasons as to why. This could mean emotions that the subject feels when listening to the song, or memories it triggers that could make the subject feel a specific emotion/s.  I feel that from asking these questions, I am able to gain more in depth meaning for my photographs, with every line and colour having a meaning. This also helps with deciding the colour I will use for the subject, as it will give more of an insight as to ...

Fine Art Experiments - Filter experiments

Image
In these experiments, I decided to experiment with different filters using Photoshop. I wanted to incorporate more than just decreasing saturation and increasing contrast in digital into my photography because I felt the experiments I had used in my work made it seem flat, even with the added layering on top with the acrylic, scratching and paint. As well as this, I wanted the photographs to have an added meaning with colour connotations done by using filters of that colour on top of the black and white photograph. I have used all black and white photographs due to the connotation of old memories, and because it also makes much more contrast between the tones in the piece.  For my experiments, I have used a photograph of my 6 month old niece, who I feel is a good subject for displaying emotions based on memories. As a baby, most memories are nostalgic and happy, which is why I have used the colour pink. The colour pink also is what baby girls are represented by, so it conve...

Fine Art Photography - Editing Photos

Image
When I took my photos, I decided to edit them in Photoshop. I decided I wanted to edit them rather than keep them as they were because adding colour onto photographs that already contain colour wouldn't give me the contrast I wanted in my photographs. I also wanted my pieces to focus on only one colour that would represent the emotion associated with the music that it gives to the subject when they listen to it. The colour would also represent the emotion that they feel if the song reminds them of a certain memory.  To begin, I wanted to change the saturation of the photograph by -100, making it transform from colour to grey scale. I feel adding the grey scale will allow my piece to be in the background and not focused on when I add the colour onto the piece. It also increases the contrast and allows the person to focus on the particular colour, meaning that the connotation surrounding that colour would be obvious to the person viewing the piece.  While looking back...

Inkblot Tests

Image
A Rorschach test (also known as inkblot test) is a psychological test where people's perceptions of the shapes inkblots are recorded and analysed.  The results of inkblots can be used to determine a variety of characteristics; such as personality and emotional functioning. It can also detect any underlying though disorders, which is disorganised thinking by disorganised speech. For example, thought blocking or illogicality.  The process of an inkblot test follows 10 inkblots printed on cards (5 of which are in black and white and 5 in colour. This test was used primarily many years ago, but it is still used today but rarely.  The results aren't often just the response the individual gives on what they see on the inkblot. It can also be influenced on the time taken before the individual provides a response, as well as any other comments they may make based on the inkblot.
